What is a Managed Access Provider (MAP)?
A Managed Access Provider (MAP) connects a Communications Provider to the UK switching ecosystem and handles message exchange, orchestration and compliance on its behalf. GPLB requires every provider to operate a substantial piece of transactional infrastructure that no customer will ever thank them for; a MAP operates that infrastructure as a shared service.
What a MAP does
- Connects you to the transports — the TOTSCo Hub and the peer-to-peer Connected Services Framework, so you integrate once rather than with each transport separately.
- Runs the switching orchestration — transaction lifecycle, switching state and configurable timers, eligibility and validation against live services, and gaining-provider-led decision logic.
- Validates messages — structured schema validation in both directions, catching malformed messages before they become disputes.
- Handles failure — retry with exponential backoff, dead-letter handling, and explicit flows for rejections, withdrawals and timeouts.
- Produces your audit evidence — immutable transaction logs, timestamped message archive and dispute traceability.
- Bridges existing systems — where an OSS/BSS lacks real-time switching hooks, the MAP performs the translation.
MAP or build in-house?
Building in-house makes sense if switching operations are a genuine differentiator, you have engineering capacity spare, and you will own the compliance surface permanently. Otherwise a MAP gives faster time to readiness, absorbs transport changes, produces the audit evidence, and keeps your engineers on product.
Integration models
NowYoYo supports enterprise API-driven integration with Kafka available for high-volume exchange, whitelabelled solutions for major providers and partners, and hybrid swivel-chair GUI interfaces with APIs for providers without complex OSS/BSS hooks.
